Typical marker construction
The markers are produced by using molten cast aluminum, generally between 1400 and 1600 degree F. The liquid molten aluminum is then poured into individual molds by hand forming the marker around a galvanized steel spike. The process is called "one-pour chill method" and was developed by Joseph DeFontes in the early 1950's. Once cooled, we then chip and deburr the excess aluminum to remove all the sharp edges.
